Senior fall detection
Senior fall detection: how Helpmate replaces the medical-alert pendant.
Senior fall detection that works away from home Wi-Fi. Helpmate is a 4G LTE wearable with on-device AI fall detection, geofenced safe zones, and a caregiver app the whole family shares — built for the moment the wearer cannot press a button.
How it works
How senior fall detection works on Helpmate.
Senior fall detection traditionally meant a pendant the wearer had to press when they could no longer press anything. A medical-alert pendant is a one-way phone, tethered to a base station at home, that calls a single number when the button is pushed. In the moment that matters most — after a serious fall, before the wearer is steady again — the pendant is the tool that is least useful.
Helpmate replaces the pendant with a wearable that watches for the fall itself. On-device accelerometry plus a small on-board model watches for the impact-plus- stillness pattern of a real fall — a dropped phone or a fumbled sit-down does not fire an alert. The moment the model classifies an actual fall, the wearable pings the caregiver app over 4G LTE within seconds, with location, time, and the wearer’s last-known vitals. The wearer never has to remember to press anything.
Around the wearable, the same cloud service draws geofenced safe zones — a 200 m circle around home, a sibling’s house, the corner pharmacy — and quietly watches whether the wearer is in or out of them. The system only escalates when the wearer enters or leaves a safe zone unexpectedly, never for routine trips. Caregivers tune the radius per wearer, so an independent 75-year-old and a more cautious 85-year-old each get rules calibrated to their day.
Senior fall detection is one half of the system. The other half is the multi- caregiver app: an adult daughter in another state, the spouse at work, a home aide — each sees the same live timeline the moment an alert fires, without juggling three separate apps or shared passwords. The SOS button is still mechanical and press-and-hold, but the wearer does not have to be the link in the chain any more.
Pendant vs. Helpmate
Why families switch from a medical-alert pendant to Helpmate.
The pendant has not changed in fifteen years. Helpmate replaces the moment-of- failure button-press with a layered safety system that works automatically, anywhere, for the whole family.
Automatic, not button-dependent
Senior fall detection fires when the wearable detects a real impact-plus-stillness event, not when (and if) the wearer remembers to press.
4G LTE GPS, not base-station range
Senior fall detection and geofencing work at the grocery store, the bus stop, the doctor’s office — anywhere cellular does, with no base station in the loop.
Geofenced safe zones, not panic calls
The system only escalates on real events — a fall, an unexpected exit from a safe zone. No daily check-in nag, no alert fatigue.
Mechanical SOS, still press-and-hold
The SOS button stays one large textured press-and-hold, so the wearer can still escalate by hand — and caregivers can tell from the timeline which fired first.
Multi-caregiver, one shared timeline
Up to six caregivers per wearer share one live timeline. No shared passwords, no third-party dashboards, no separate apps per family member.
End-to-end encryption, HIPAA-style posture
Location and biometric data travel end-to-end encrypted between the wearable and the caregiver app. Raw sensor streams stay on the device.
Helpmate wearable
GPS over 4G LTE, AI fall detection, mechanical SOS, geofenced safe zones — pre-paired to a multi-caregiver app the whole family shares.
Battery: roughly seven days of typical use, charged on a magnetic cradle on the nightstand.
